two movies this weekend.

i've been watching the first series of dexter on showtime on demand (i've already seen the second season) and trying to foresee what leads to the start of the second season. (if you don't know the premise for the series; it involves a guy who, as a child, witnesses his parents' brutal murder and then is raised by a policeman who teaches him how to redirect his urges to kill - for good, like a vigilante. so he knows how to cover his tracks and, in adulthood, is an excellent forensic pathologist for the miami police force specializing in blood spatter, etc.) now i can't even remember how the second one starts.
i did get a chance to borrow and see no country for old men by the cohen brothers. definitely not another o brother where are thou or fargo, this time the cohen brothers had me yelling, "aw, come on!" when the credits rolled at the end. i was looking for a nice resolution to the ending, but alas, did not find one. the one thing i walked away with from this cohen brothers movie (and fargo) is that one should be wary of large satchels of money.
the other movie i watched this weekend was i am legend with will smith. needless to say, don't waste your money. i saw this with my family and when will smith goes to cut himself down from a trap (a type of noose around the foot/left hanging upside down trap), my mom wondered aloud, "well isn't he gonna hold onto the rope before he cuts it?" of course he doesn't and falls on his own open knife. smith's character is suppose to be a commander of some kind in the army. i would say he should have some better survival skills than my mom. remembering the subtitle that said "three years later" - marking the period of passing between a viral infection and the fall of mankind - my dad kept wondering, "how did he survive those three years?" i suppose that in the future the military will have to cut out basic training and survival skills 101. also, how played out is the butterfly/rebirth thing?
the one thing i can't figure out is why the creepy infected peoples' mouths (think of the mummy who comes back to life in the mummy) have to overextend when opening for either a scream or a bite. it's as if their jaw dislocates and drops below their neckline and then relocates for a dramatic cheap-o effect. i personally prefer the subtle creepiness of scenes as seen in 30 days of night where someone is suddenly pulled underneath a house by an unseen force. that whole psychological creature-in-the-dark type of thing instead of the obvious fangoria magazine type of blood and gore.
